Properties of Aroma Oils
- They do not leave an impression on the paper.
- Highly unstable.
- They are essences.
- Lighter than water in the majority cases.
- Generally colourless except a few that are dark red, brownish,
blue green, yellow or gold.
- Odoriferous and soluble in alcohol.
- Pungent and extremely inflammable.
- They are antibacterial, antiviral and anti-microbic.
- They have germ attacking power and do not harm tissues.
- Their odour has the power to influence the state of mind (it works
through the olfactory tract).
- They combat any kind of attack from viruses, microbes and germs
and help in reinforcing the body's immune system.
- Its effects are the same whether taken internally or externally.
E.g. Eucalyptus is more potent than its constituent derivatives eucalyptol.
