Patchouli Patchouli (Pogostemon patchouli)

Origins
Patchouli is a fragrant herb found in the Far East and the West Indies.

Essential oil
Steam distillation of the dried leaves produces thick, dark ruby oil, with a strong, heavy smell. It has an uplifting, soothing, warming influence.

Most common uses
  • Antiseptic and anti-fungal

  • Good for all kinds of fever

  • Good for a number of skin conditions, including scars, acne, eczema, burns, allergies and hemorrhoids.
Peppermint Peppermint (Mentha piperita)

Origins
A native of southern Europe, this plant is grown all over the world but now comes mainly from the US.

Essential oil
Steam distillation of partially dried herbs produces colourless or pale yellow oil that thickens and darkens as it gets older. It has a strong, fresh smell and generally has a refreshing, invigorating effect.

  • Good for insomnia
