Eucalyptus Eucalyptus (Eucalyptus globules)

Origins
The eucalyptus is grown in southern Europe, North Africa and Australia. Only 15 of its many varieties are used to make essential oils.

Essential oil
Steam distillation of the leaves and older branches produces very fluid, pale yellow oil. It purifies the air and can help, in particular, in epidemics of colds and influenza. Eucalyptus is one of the most important essential oils used in pharmacy.

Most common uses
  • Powerful antiseptic.
  • Soothes respiratory tract and is helpful in coughs and colds, croup, pneumonia, asthma, tuberculosis, bronchitis, sinusitis and influenza.

  • Useful in cases of cystitis.

  • Reduces temperature in illnesses such as measles, typhus and malaria.

  • Good for neuralgia and migraine headache.

  • Good for rheumatic conditions.

  • Useful in diabetes.
Pelargonium Graveolens Pelargonium Graveolens

Origins
Of the 700 different varieties of geranium around are used to produce essential oils. The most exquisitely scented essential oil is Geranium Bourbon which is obtained from Reunion an island in the Indian Ocean that produce half the world's total supply and Algeria.

Essential oils
Steam distillation of the leaves and stems gathered before flowering produced a yellowish green to brown oil with a powerful aroma. It is joyful mentally uplifting oil and a great favourite. Its perfumes make it a valuable addition to many therapeutic but otherwise unattractively scented oils.

  • Helps relives neuralgia.

  • Useful in cases of diarrhea and gastric entries.
