Camomile Camomile, Roman (Anthemis nobilis)

Origins
Roman camomile is a very common plant which grows in temperate regions all over Europe.

Essential oil
Steam distillation of dried flowers produces pale blue oil, which becomes a greenish yellow colour when it ages. It has a warm, fruity aroma. It is recommended in low doses for use on children.

Most common uses
  • Stimulates and regulates the digestive system.

  • Good for gastric and intestinal ulcers.

  • Calms nervous system.

  • Good for depression, irritability, insomnia, hysteria and anxiety.

  • Helps in cases of anemia.

  • Eases menopausal problems, such as hot flushes, profuse sweating, aches and pains, and fluid retention.

  • Good for premenstrual syndrome.

  • Relieves neuralgia.

  • Good for several skin conditions including dermatitis, eczema, urticaria, burns, sores, wounds, herpes and psoriasis.
Cypress Cypress (Cupressus sempervirens)

Origins
Large evergreen tree found in the south of France, where most of the essential oil is produced, Italy, Corsica, Spain, Portugal and North Africa.

Essential oil
Steam distillation of the leaves, needles and twigs produces oil that varies from pale yellow to green, with a smell reminiscent of pine needles.

Most common uses
  • Anti-rheumatic.

  • Beneficial during menopause.

  • Good for circulation and for varicose veins, thread veins and hemorrhoids.

  • Diuretic eases coughs.
